Archive note. Historical reference. PhoneGap tools and the former Adobe services are no longer maintained as described in the original material. Recovered text and newly written explanations are identified below; consult current platform documentation for active development.

Choose the component you need

PhoneGap was a family of tools, not one interchangeable download. The Desktop application provided a graphical project workflow; the CLI exposed terminal commands; the Developer App previewed projects on a device. PhoneGap Build was a hosted service and cannot be installed from an archived client package.

Desktop release 0.4.5

The official GitHub release archive contains 0.4.5 packages for Windows and macOS, including PhoneGapSetup-win32.exe, PhoneGapDesktop.dmg, and platform ZIP archives. Open the 0.4.5 release page to inspect the original release and assets.

These are historical packages. Their presence in the source archive does not establish compatibility with a current operating system, signing requirements or current mobile SDKs. The archive does not repackage installers or add a download manager.

Historical CLI installation

The original installation guide used Node.js, npm and Git, followed by:

npm install -g phonegap
phonegap --version

This command is preserved to explain the old workflow. Installing a retired CLI today is not a supported migration strategy. For maintained development, start with the current Cordova guide and use versions appropriate for your project.

Before opening an old project

Keep the source tree, config.xml, plugin versions and signing records together. A compiled APK or IPA does not replace these project inputs. Review the getting-started archive for the relationship between the tools, and the Build history if the project previously depended on cloud packaging.
